19th edition · Catignano (PE)
The castle is gone. The party isn't.
from 19:00 To be confirmed
For two nights the family cellars of Catignano's old town open their doors: new wine, home cooking and music until late, up the lanes where the castle once stood.
13 cellars, one stroll.
From the castle ring to the east square: about 400 metres of lanes and 4 cash desks. The map takes you from door to door, even offline.
Open the mapVia del Castello, the ring of the castrum: about 223 metres around.
The castle comes back
Records mention it as early as 1090, when the castle of Catignano passed from the Diocese of Penne to the Abbey of San Bartolomeo di Carpineto.
What is left of the castrum today: stretches of sloping walls, and a shape, the ring of Via del Castello, which still follows its line. That is where the festival was born, in 2006.
And every November the castle comes back, made of light: 13 cellars lit from the ring to the far end of the village, music in the lanes, everyone out in the street.
